Nonlinear benchmark with GENE

Here is an example of a nonlinear benchmark of GS2 with GENE, another gyrokinetic Vlasov-type code developed independently by Dr. Frank Jenko at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Garching, Germany.

The simulations are set up with the same simulation domain and physics parameters. The model problem is that of toroidal ETG turbulence, which is the electron analogue of ITG turbulence. The time-averaged values of the thermal diffusion coefficient chi_e agree well.

Electrostatic, gyrokinetic benchmarks with the LLNL GK PIC code (Dimits, et al.) have been successful. Here is a comparison of the heat flux vs. time for a typical case. Both codes also see the upshift of the critical gradient in nonlinear simulations.
